Year 9 Māori Class - In-School Marae experience
Wednesday of week nine our Year 9 Māori class enjoyed a lovely morning at school with guest weaver, Amber Bridgman.
Amber is a clothes designer and weaver with many years experience who has previously been an Artist in Residence at Columba. The students enjoyed hearing her speak about the tradition of weaving, and having a go themselves. Amber taught them to make putiputi/flowers and they all did a wonderful job. As part of the morning's activities the students also shared their mihimihi (personal greeting in Māori) with Amber, and sang two waiata they have been learning in class.
