Mrs Anwyn Walker …. 26 years at Columba

Mrs C Cheyne —

Mrs Walker first came to Columba in 1995 to fill a position vacated during the year.

In 1996 Mrs Povey resigned with ill health, and Mrs Walker and Mrs McKinlay shared a Std 1 class for the rest of that year.

After some years doing Teacher Release time in the Junior School for Mrs Leadbeater and also Mrs Hogg, Miss Wilson moved her to the Intermediate Department in Term 3 of 2003.

As Mrs Walker said the other day, 18 years upstairs with Year 8, with approximately 50 English students a year, means she has taught 900 girls!

Several senior teachers have said that it is noticeable when the Columba Year 9 girls arrive in their classes with sound grammar, neat handwriting and excellent organisational skills because they have been taught so well by Mrs Walker.

Mrs Walker has been involved in many areas of school life. She looked after tennis and badminton for the Y7 and 8 girls, as well as the Kids' Lit Quiz and the Classics Quiz. However, she is mostly known for her famous, annual Book Quiz which she ran for Years 6-10 from 2006 – 2019. The girls always enjoyed their morning in the gym, answering questions about literature, with both spot prizes and book prizes to be won.

As a school community, we wish her well for the new adventures ahead; she will be missed greatly, especially in the Middle School.
