Football
Columba College football has a number of rising stars and prospective leaders emerging, especially the current 2019 Year 11’s who show outstanding strength, skill and initiative.
The team atmosphere and culture is uplifting, positive and inclusive. Everyone is there for each other and we all work hard to improve, not only for ourselves but for the team. Already, this year, there have been huge improvements in all our players across the season. In 2018, Columba College won a silver medal at the Lotto Sportswear Tournament, winning every game except the final. Five of our strongest footballers left Columba at the end of 2018, so the current year has been all about team rebuilding. Our focus is to ensure football at Columba continues to grow and develop over the years ahead. We have a large number of football players across all skill levels, so new players are welcome to come along to practices and just give it a go. Last year’s Columba College 1st XI Captain, Mikayla Gray, has recently attended a NZ U20 trial and was part of the team that won the Kate Sheppard Cup (National Women's Club Football Competition) in 2018. Both the first and second XI train once a week and historically both teams perform very well in their respective grades in the local competition. The 1st XI always attends the Winter Tournament, which this year was held in Invercargill.
