This past Tuesday evening saw the return of the annual Otago University Senior Classical Studies Quiz. Six Columba College teams were in attendance, battling for supremacy against the likes of Logan Park, Kings and Otago Boys’ in a contest more fraught than the Siege of Tyre (332 BC).

With easily the best team names of the night (Hadrian’s Harem, Caesar Bit My Finger and Sisyphus’s Hiking Buddies) Columba’s moniker dominance transferred to the final reckoning - ‘Alexander the Overcompensating’ (Lily Ferro, Grace Johnston, and JMC student Toby Wafer - who, much like Achilles under the guidance of the wise centaur Chiron, has learned his trade in Girton’s hallowed halls) becoming princeps (‘first citizens’) for the evening, etching their names into Columba College history and ensuring that the trophy resides on Highgate for a fifth consecutive year. With the team scoring 50 put of a possible 55 points, this was truly a Herculean effort!
