Columba Rugby Sevens Results

Miss P Hopcroft —

On Wednesday 9th June the finals of the Otago Secondary School Girls Rugby Competition was played.

Columba had three teams involved in the competition!

Our young stars, the Columba Junior Navy, played in the Junior competition. There were many members of the team who are new to rugby with a couple having played before. When asked how they found the competition, they expressed how much they enjoyed playing, saying that they learnt a lot and gained confidence. Columba Junior Navy placed 4th in the Junior Grade.

Columba Senior B competed in the Senior grade among some very talented rugby players. Although some games snuck away from them, you wouldn't have noticed due to the smiles on their face and each member never gave up. It was awesome to see the improvements each member made individually and as a team from the beginning to the back end of the competition. Columba Senior B placed 5th in the Senior Grade.

Columba Senior A also competed in the Senior grade. They went through the competition relatively unscathed. They were able to work the ball to the edges of the field and utilise their strengths which included their passing and speed of the game to get the opposition on the back foot. Columba came up against a very strong OGHS team in the final. Unfortunately, Columba went down 36-15; however, the skill level displayed bodes well for the first XV season which kicks off on the 23rd of June.

Thank you to the coaches, parents and management who attended. The support was awesome and the future of Sevens at Columba College looks bright!

Columba First XV will be playing a pre-season game against Southland Girls High School on Monday 21st June 3:30pm at Kaikorai rugby fields. Please feel free to come and support the players.
