Year 0-1 Mandarin class making “red envelopes”

Ms I Ding —

Year 0-1 students have been learning how the Chinese celebrate the Chinese New Year and all about Chinese zodiac animals.

Firstly we learnt to draw a “红包 hóngbāo ” red envelope on a paper template, then cut and paste the paper to make the hóngbāo. Some students draw bunnies on the paper as 2023 is the year of the rabbit. They used lots of red and yellow to colour their drawings. Chinese people love the colour red and regard red as the symbol of energy, happiness and good luck. Sending red envelopes is a way to send good wishes and luck (as well as money).
