Recently the Kids Lit Quiz team travelled to Wellington to compete in the National finals for NZ as the regional winners for Otago. There were 16 regional winners in the competition and we were thrilled to win second place.

The team from Year 7 was: Clara Ballantyne, Grace Hill, Natalie McDonald & Tessa Smith.

The competition was very tough with each correct answer winning two points and every incorrect answer losing one point. There were five categories covered, only three of which we knew in advance. One category was ‘Opening Lines’ where the quiz master read the opening paragraph from a book and the first team to answer correctly won the points. In some instances the master had only read five words before a team pressed their buzzer with the answer!

The team had an enjoyable morning in Wellington prior to the quiz walking along the waterfront, riding the cable car, looking in the cable car museum and viewing the original Treaty of Waitangi document in the National Library. After our successful time at the quiz we had time at Te Papa Museum before our flight home.

Congratulations to the team and their success reflects the many hours each member spent reading books. We are very proud.
