Athletics Day was held on the 19th February and was a highlight of the year for many girls. It was a very warm day and spirits were high across all house groups.

The day began with the traditional lap around the Caledonian with each house singing their chants. This was a great way to bring the houses together before the competition started.

Following these highly entertaining house chants, competition started and our Columba athletes were extremely eager to compete. Competition was fierce, and as usual our athletes were outstanding across all disciplines. This year there was an amazing turnout for the fun events which reaffirmed the wonderful and welcoming house spirit. The overflowing lolly baskets, shared around all students, were another highlight of Athletics Day for 2019!

After the main competitions were completed, the much anticipated teacher vs student races were on, and this year the students managed to win. Competitive relays followed, and participation rates were high. To complete a fantastic day of competition in the sun, the eagerly awaited results of the house placings were announced, and for 2019;

• Solway took out the House Award
• Iona achieved the Spirit Stick

This year, athleticism and sportsmanship were on full display, and this is one of the main reasons why our Annual Athletics Day remains high on the list of most enjoyable experiences at Columba College.
