Aerobics National Champs
Last weekend, Columba College had amazing results at the 2022 Aerobics Nationals. This National event took place in Invercargill on the 17th and 18th of September at the ILT Stadium. Columba had 17 competitors showcasing their routines throughout the weekend and many medals and high placing were gained.
The day started off with intermediate teams; Columba had two teams in this category. Daisy Cooper and Jeila Morrison competed in an amazing routine, placing 5th in heats and 4th in finals. Olivia Brown and Ruby Nicholson also competed in a great routine, placing 4th in heats and 5th in finals. In the next category, Secondary Novice Teams, we had one team consisting of Rahwa Steel and Olivia Wallace who performed amazing routines in both heats and finals, jumping from 5th place in heats to 1st place in finals!
Next, Columba had two teams in the Intermediate Pre - Choreographed category. Harlow La Hood and Ryleigh Dey did an amazing routine, placing 9th in heats. What an amazing job, girls! Holly Weatherall and Charlotte Bloxham also competed in this category with an outstanding routine, placing 1st in both heats and finals which is an incredible achievement for their first nationals. The next category was Secondary Open Teams and student coaches Josie O’Neil and Lucy Quill placed 5th in heats and then 3rd in finals.
The last team categories of the day were Fitness Teams, where many competitors represented Columba along with other clubs and schools. In Intermediate Fitness Teams we had one Columba competitor, Sophie Butson, whose team placed 2nd in heats and 3rd in finals. In Secondary Fitness Teams, two teams in Columba were represented. Ellery Taylor and Emily Ward’s team, The Incredible Girls, placed 5th in heats and finals. Josie O’Neill's fitness team, The Spice Girls, placed 4th in both heats and finals. In Adult Fitness Teams Jo O’Halloran represented Columba along with former Columba student, Olivia Ferris in a team of five, placing 1st in both heats and finals in their last competition together as a team.
Next category on stage was Individuals. First up in Intermediate Pre- Choreographed Individuals, we had Sophie Butson who showcased an amazing routine, placing 11th in Intermediate Pre-Choreographed Individuals. Olivia Wallace competed in Junior Open Novice Individuals, placing 8th in another tough category. In our last routine of the competition, Senior Open Individuals, Lucy Quill competed in a great routine, placing 5th in heats and finals - an awesome result for such a fierce category!
Overall, the 2022 Aerobics Nationals event has been a very positive and successful event for Columba, with some amazing results and many medals. These girls will now begin training for the 2023 season, aiming for even better results.
