Ms I Ding —

To celebrate the Chinese Language week 2020, there were multiple activities arranged at Columba College.

Three-days of Chinese martial arts “Tai Chi workshops” were organised. Miss Zheng nan Shen, our special guest, who is a Tai Chi master performed Tai Chi at  school during lunch time and she also taught Year 0 to Year 10 and Year 13 students Tai Chi. Tai Chi has a long history in China. It is a mind and body harmony exercise which is very good for well-being.

Year 13 Yufei Liu accompanied Miss Shen on the violin, playing “The Butterfly Lovers". “The Butterfly Lovers" is a famous piece of Chinese music, requiring very high violin techniques. The story of "The Butterfly Lovers'' is also called the "Chinese Romeo and Juliet" - a Chinese legend of a tragic love story.

Year 5, Year 6, Year 9 and Year 10 students played Chinese folk games. Year 6 students designed blue and white porcelain plates. Year 9 and Year 10 students played Chinese folk games- such as diabolo. Year 7 and Year 8 Chinese students did calligraphy and paper cutting in Mandarin class.
