Junior Volleyball Double Victory

Mrs G Beardmore —

Columba College Junior A volleyball achieved a stunning feat this season by winning not only the Junior Premier 1 competition, but also the Senior Premier 2 competition. What a fantastic achievement for our rising young volleyball stars!

In the Junior Division this season the Columba Junior A team was untouchable, not losing a single set over the competition. The finals saw the girls facing Queens High School Y10 A. Queens had also had a very strong season, losing only one game. Regardless of this, Columba made light work of the Queen's side, beating them in straight sets 25:12 and 25:18.

Mrs Duthie, who was in attendance, remarked that the girls looked “marvellous”.

The final of the Senior Premier 2 division was a more significant challenge. The opposing team, Bayfield Senior Gold, outranked our girls in both age and height. They had also delivered the girls only defeat in the competition. Columba took the first two sets with relative ease, 25:15 and 25:20. However, the Bayfield team rallied themselves and managed to take the third set 25:23. The fourth set saw both teams give their absolute all with Columba finally managing to pry the victory away from Bayfield, taking the set 27:25. It was a fantastic match!

The Columba College Junior A volleyball team members are:

Ryan Dailey (C), Mia Revel-Lynch, Keira Hollamby, Georgia Spek, Lucy Morrison, Sophie Tizard, Kate McGowan, Kayla Smith, Amelia Hollows. The team is coached by Brett Dailey.

This term Columba College entered 10 teams into the Term 1 Volleyball competition, representing the school across 7 grades of play. All teams and players represented the school with grace, good discipline, and great sportsmanship. We are greatly looking forward to the Term 4 competition.
