Chick Update

Ms C Hillier —

Thank you all for helping hatch the baby Orpingtons and Chinese Silkies.

Dear Columba!

Thank you to all of the students who came to visit and gave the chicks love in their first few days of life. Nora successfully hatched 15 chicks with a 75% hatch rate, great work for a first attempt at hatching chickens, data collected will be used for her Crest Science Project investigating optimum development and hatch rate.

All chicks have been moved to live at Miss Hillier's house until they are old enough for adoption. Now at home they are growing fast, eating lots of chick crumble and have already doubled in size! Thanks to your love and care the chicks are very friendly and social, they still jump into my hands and nestle their wee beaks and go to sleep, especially Goldie. Our dog Bolt loves the chicks and gently keeps watch on them to make sure they are ok, like a protective big sister. She has also chased the cat Kiki away when it got too close to the chick's brooding box. I'm sure, like greedy cat, Kiki was disappointed at missing the chance for a fluffy chick snack. Here is a selection photos of students featured from the Junior, Middle and Senior school visiting SCI2 in Braemar.
