Aerobics

Miss E McCaughan & Miss O Ferris —

Aerobics is a high intensity sport where athletes perform choreographed routines while executing the sport specific skills required.

The focus is on the Otago Regional Competition in August where our teams represent Columba College. If the standard of your routine is competitive, and depending on the standard of the category you are competing in, you will qualify for the National Aerobics Competition. Columba College started offering aerobics at school as we knew there was an interest among the students. We have two student coaches who compete themselves, Emma McCaughan and Olivia Ferris. Aerobics is continuing to grow at Columba with 13 students competing at Regionals this year compared to the six from last year. There are all ages of students ranging from Year 7 to Year 13. Columba College also came away with a total of three trophies, one from Regionals and two from Nationals, and two further awards where some of our Columba girls were a part of a fitness team combined with another school. Emma and Olivia are extremely dedicated taking extra practices leading up to the competition and are already coaching the girls three times a week. Columba College did sensationally last year at Nationals and blew us away. Our athletes achieved the third highest amount of points out of any school nationally! Columba had six girls entered, they did phenomenally well and all came away with placings in the top three!
