National Diving Skills Testing
Two intermediate Columba College students recently took part in a National Diving Skills Testing competition and the results they achieved were impressive! Well done girls!
Two Columba College student divers competed in a National Skills Testing competition held in Wellington over the weekend of 9th & 10th September. It was the first diving event away from Dunedin for Mia (Year 8) and her sister Emily (Year 7), and both girls showed incredible focus, resilience and sportsmanship over the two day event.
Skills testing divers are given a score for each board completed, 1m, 3m and 5m platform. Five judges award a score from zero to 10. Zero represents a failed dive while a ten is given for a close to perfect dive. The highest and lowest scores are then discarded and the diver is awarded an average of the 3 remaining judges’ scores. Skills testing divers will do five dives from each board. Gold ribbons represent scores of 112 and above, silver ribbon 97.5 – 112.45 points and bronze ribbon 75 - 97.45 points.
Results
Emily = 2nd overall in age group 11 and under. Emily came away with a gold ribbon for her 3m springboard and two silver ribbons for her 1m and 5m platform dives.
Mia = 1st overall in age group 12 and over. Mia came away with two gold ribbons for her 1m and 3m springboards and a silver ribbon for her 5m platform dives.
Congratulations girls – fantastic work! The Sports Department staff are super proud of your mahi and dedication to diving, and we look forward to following your progress with much interest.
