EnviroSchools Tree Planting

Mr Potter —

A number of our Year 8 to Year 10 girls involved themselves in a day out on 21 August of tree planting and education around global warming.

The students who attended were Nora Paicu and Poppy Henderson from Year 8, and Lucy-Bell Wickliffe and Jessica Taylor-Cyphers from Year 10. In the morning the students traveled out to Mosgiel with Mr Potter and received some education around climate change. We had some visiting speakers from the Otago University Physics Department and also from the Otago Museum. These speakers held the students' interest by conducting experiments and simulations to demonstrate.

After lunch the girls travelled through to Fairfield and planted trees at Walton Park. Former Minister for the Environment Mr David Benson-Pope spoke to the students and thanked them all for their tree planting efforts.

A wonderful day was had by all present. We had great weather.

The following ODT article and video clip explains more about the day and has some tree planting action!
