Tāngata Whenua at the Otago Museum
Year 11 Art students visited the Tāngata Whenua space at the Otago Museum on Tuesday.
We studied and observed Māori carving (whakairo) in different forms and looked at patterns, motifs and sculptural qualities.
The students took photos for their research and also did some drawings of the beautiful treasures (taonga) and pou (representing Māori ancestors) which are exhibited there.
This was an enriching and interesting experience for the Year 11s to gather drawing information for their first art internal assessment.
