Year 8 Camp - Deep Cove

Mrs J Armstrong-Homan —

Year 8 students experienced a range of weather conditions during their recent camp at Deep Cove, Doubtful Sound, Fiordland.

The students had the opportunity to fish, observe the night sky, spy on glow worms, use iPads to identify local flora and fauna, feed weka and kea, get close to a waterfall, hike a hanging valley and be totally immersed in the stunning surroundings. Kristian and Bailey from Adventure Southland accompanied the group and guided the students through many activities.

A highlight for some of our students was the boat trip in the cove, where we got a close-up view of the bottlenose dolphin and Little Blue Penguin.

Students made the most of every moment, rising bright and early and exploring and adventuring all day. These adventurers arrived home safely, weary and happy, having had the time of their lives!

We are grateful for the assistance provided by a very supportive and vibrant group of parent helpers; Richard Daggar, Christy Ellis, Maya Macfarlane, Damian Mackenzie, Jonathan Potter, and Petra Pritchard.
