Rocky Shore!

Ms C Hillier & Mr A Everett —

Kia Kaha, teno pai Year 7 Columba students, kaitiaki / guardians of our Otepoti Marine eco systems!

This week Year 7 students, in collaboration with the University of Otago and the MM2 survey, collected quadrant data on local marine life that will help us better understand our local flora and fauna by monitoring bio- diversity over time.

Students were hands on: classifying substrate, counting species and identifying most populous regions on the rocky shore.

Our Columba senior physics students will understand that thanks to the latest super moon, we had exceptionally low tides which meant we were able to survey marine life that is normally permanently underwater!

Thank-you to Shelley and Adelle from the Portobello Marine Centre for your expert knowledge and help.
