Happy Chinese New Year!

Mrs Ding —

2020 is a year of the Rat, starting from January 25th, 2020 and lasting until February 11th, 2021. It will be a Metal Rat year.

The Year of the Rat is the first zodiac sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle. In Chinese culture, rats represent working diligently and thriftiness, so people born in a Rat year are thought to be wealthy and prosperous.

At class, Year 7 students made 'red envelopes'. Chinese people love the colour red and wear red as a symbol of energy, happiness and good luck. Sending red envelopes is a way to send good wishes and luck (as well as money).

Year 10 students designed the 'Chinese blue and white pottery plates' to celebrate the Year of the Rat. These beautiful plates are displayed in the Girton corridor near the Chinese classroom.
