Principal's Induction Service

Miss H Coe, Miss E Cameron, Miss B Duncan —

On Tuesday evening, Columba College inducted its new Tumuaki! We had a lovely service at Knox Church conducted by Rev. Anne Thomson. The service began with an empowering performance from our strong kapa haka rōpū, including a haka pōwhiri as the distinguished guests came in.

It was a service full of celebration as the school song was sung with enthusiasm. The sermon was spoken by the Very Rev. Hamish Galloway, his message was very important and relatable for staff, students, and Mrs. Nicol alike. Rev. Galloway stated that while Mrs. Nicol may have large expectations and pressure upon her, she is not the Messiah! However, we know that her aspirations for the College are in our best interests, and her compassion and drive to make Columba an even better place will be of great value to the College community moving forward. We are very excited to have Mrs. Nicol as our Kaitiaki.

The sermon and induction was followed by a beautiful rendition of the Aaronic Blessing, sung by Cantus Columba and accompanied by Mrs. Cheyne. Dr. Doug Hill, President for the Board of Governors, presented Ms. Nicol with a very special koha, a beautiful pounamu. Dr. Hill touched on the importance of the pounamu as a symbol of the promises made in her vows, the wairua of God, and her beneficial qualities as Principal.

The mana throughout this service was felt by the entire congregation, and it was a very special event that would not have been possible without the wonderful organisation and guidance from Rev. Thomson and the Columba staff and prefects.
