International Ski Trip 2018

Mr Murray —

Fresh snow and blue skies at Coronet Peak are not always a given but we had it all. The International ski trip in August was a great success in a number of ways.

Weather and snow obviously played their part but the attitude of the girls was also outstanding. For some it was the first time they had seen snow and for many it was their first time on skis. For a few it was a chance to show off skills learned from previous trips. Lessons were compulsory and of great benefit. This was very obvious by the end of the third day when everyone was scattered over various ski runs around the mountain, showing confidence and skill, negotiating the slopes with enthusiasm.

Hut life was just as important in many ways. A group of senior students led by example and dinner dishes were done with so much laughter and goodwill it almost seemed as if there was too much enjoyment in the task. Games and singing were spontaneous and really showed the acceptance of each other, no matter what age or nationality.

Ms Jenness Riethmaier, Mr Alan Williams, Mrs Caroline Rowe and Mr Peter Murray were the ‘grownups’ privileged to accompany this group of International students and we all enjoyed seeing the students making the most of their time. We should acknowledge the dedication of Ms Riethmaier and Mr Williams who put hours of work into organising the trip, in particular the food, which was outstanding!

The International Ski Trip is firmly established as a highlight of the school year!
