Winter Uniform

Administration —

Time to check your uniform still fits!

The holidays are a perfect opportunity to assess the condition of your tamariki's school uniform. Please see the attached documents for an easy guide to wearing our uniform well.

In particular, before Term 2 commences, please check:

  • hem length (mid-calf)
  • sleeve length (on the wrist)
  • buttons
  • regulation, clean footwear
  • tights/socks in good order
  • hair

Attention to the following uniform and appearance matters would be very much appreciated. We have a very attractive school and sports uniform and enjoy seeing the students wearing it correctly and with pride.

  • Long-sleeved blouses/shirts - All students are required to wear long-sleeved blouses/shirts in Terms 2 and 3.
  • Boys in the Junior School may wear long, grey school trousers with the winter socks underneath. If wearing the grey shorts, knee-length Columba College regulation socks must be worn in Terms 2 and 3.
  • Regulation black leather lace-up shoes - Please check your child’s shoes are in good, tidy order. Slip-ons, black gym shoes or ankle boot styles are not permitted.
  • Long-sleeved V-neck navy blue jersey - This is the regulation garment the vest is optional. If the jersey is worn, a blazer must still be worn over the top of it outside of school grounds.
  • Long-sleeved regulation cardigan. If the cardigan is worn, a blazer must still be worn over the top of it outside of school grounds.
  • Black Watch scarves - can be purchased from the Scottish Shop.
  • Winter Kilts - These should be worn in Terms 2 and 3. If you do not currently own a winter kilt that fits, your child may wear their summer kilt until the U-Shop has new stock. There is an option for students to wear the navy trousers sold at the U-Shop. The kilt remains the formal uniform, however, and must be worn on occasions such as prize-giving, special assemblies etc.
  • Regulation navy-blue tights or over-the-knee navy blue socks  - No ankle socks are permitted. Socks should be long enough that there is no gap between the bottom of the kilt and the top of the sock.
  • The regulation navy-blue tights are selected for quality and warmth. Columbine Opaques 70 Denier, colour “Ink” are available for purchase through the School Office for $14.00 a pair.
  • Underwear/polypropylene undergarments - These are to be white/cream so that the colour doesn’t show through under the blouse.
  • Repairs - Torn pockets, frayed elbows, missing buttons and fallen hems must be attended to.
  • Street Uniform - The blazer is worn buttoned-up on the street and in public. There is no eating or drinking on the street and in public in school uniform. The top shirt button is worn done up at school on the street and in public.
  • Naming of items - Please check that all of your child's clothing and possessions are named.
