Personal use of social media at Columba College

Administration —

A timely reminder of our expectations regarding using cellphones and engaging with social media

The following provides a clear summary of our school rules regarding student use of cellphones and social media at school. It would be appreciated if caregivers could take the time to remind students of these.

CELLPHONES USAGE AT SCHOOL

Cellphones are to be used appropriately and only at the discretion of the teacher. They are to be on silent and are not to be used for personal communication in class, for example, the sending or receiving of text messages or calls. If you use your cellphone inappropriately, you will be issued with a pink slip. Pink slip detentions are held on Fridays at 3.30 pm, with Mrs Duthie, in the Frances Ross Common Room.

PERSONAL MUSIC

You are permitted to use headphones for personal music in class only at the discretion of the teacher.

PRIVACY

You may not take photographs, videos or audio recordings of staff or other students in class or teaching situations, without their express permission. Incidents of students taking photographs, videos or audio recordings of staff or other students in class or teaching situations and sharing or posting them online will be taken very seriously and brought to the attention of the Principal.

SOCIAL MEDIA

You are not permitted to tag or make reference to other students, teachers, or Columba College on social media without obtaining consent. This includes having people or school facilities in the background of photographs/videos. This also includes the Boarding Houses.

You are not permitted to film or photograph material for the purpose of uploading to social media sites such as FaceBook, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram etc. while in school uniform, or on school grounds, or while on a school field trip/camp, sports event, or in attendance at a school social occasion.
