Senior A Volleyball

Miss J Paterson —

Last weekend the Columba College Senior A Volleyball team travelled to Christchurch to play in the annual Mainlands Volleyball Tournament.

There were 38 girls teams, entered from all around the South Island, split into 3 Divisions. Columba were in Division 1 and competed against the top teams in the South Island.

On the Friday Columba had three tough games against Lincoln, Riccarton and Marlborough Girls. They came away with a good win against Riccarton but had close losses against the other two teams.

First up on Saturday was Canterbury's second best team Burnside High School. This was a really hard game but the girls stepped up and gave it their best. It was a really good experience for the girls to play such an amazing team and they learnt a lot from it.

The other two teams Columba met in the competition were Cashmere and Nelson College for Girls. Again the girls played well but were unlucky. The level of competition at the tournament was really high and this was great preparation for the girls leading into the Otago Champs this weekend and the Nationals tournament in two weeks.

A special thank you to Dawn Hope for being our Manager for the weekend and looking after the team so well. Thank you also to Will White for all the time and effort he is putting into preparing the team for the three tournaments this month.
