2022 Chinese Prize-giving Otago hosted at Columba College
On Wed, 26th Oct 4.30-5.30pm Columba College hosted the 2022 Chinese Prize-giving at Caroline Freeman Theatre.
Mrs Pauline Duthie delivered a welcome speech at the beginning of the ceremony to welcome Dr Zhifang Song director of Confucius Institute at University of Canterbury (CIUC), Prof. Qianhua Yu (deputy director of CIUC), the staff from CIUC, Columba College, Bayfield school, Maorihill School and Kaikorai primary school, students, parents and teachers.
Columba College was awarded the '2022 Best School'. Ms Ivy Ding accepted the award on behalf of our school. Columba College was also awarded the '2022 Confucius Classroom of The Year' award. Mrs Pauline Duthie accepted the award.
There were a number of students from our Middle and Senior school who won national prizes. Congratulations to the following Columba students’ outstanding achievement in Chinese in 2022.

2. Winners of the 13th New Zealand Chinese Calligraphy Competition:
- Year 12 Koh Miyamichi won 2nd prize at Hard Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category and 3rd prize at Brush Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category.
- Year 9 Matilda Sutton won 3rd prize at “Brush Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category”.
- Following students won Merit prize at Intermediate & Secondary Calligraphy Competition.

3. Year 13 Maya Rosehas been awarded the 2022 “Chinese Bridge” National Chinese Language Gala Award.
We were delighted to watch Year 11 Rebekah Sime’s “TaiChi Fan” dance at the Chinese Prize-giving. The event went smoothly and successfully.
We would like to thank Mrs Pauline Duthie, the school management team, staff, teachers, students and parents who came to the Chinese Prize-giving on Wed afternoon. A big thanks to Mr Saul Moore who is preparing and managing the technology facilities. We also would like to thank our student volunteers: Year 13 Maggie Huang, Maya Rose, Year 11 Emily Sharp, Rebekah Sime, Tessa Smith and Year 10 Nanni Ge for helping and setting up the event.
