The Junior School celebrate the mid-Autumn Moon Festival

Dr A George —

Make a wish outside this Saturday night. It just might come true!

This week in the library, the junior classes have been learning about the mid-Autumn Festival. It is the second biggest festival in China and Chinese people have three days off from school and work. This year it is celebrated on the 10th of September. Also called the Moon Festival, it is a time to spend with family, give thanks, and eat moon cakes which have characters for luck, harmony or longevity. Many people eat outside at night, gazing at the moon which is at its brightest and fullest on this day.

It is said that if you make a secret wish to the kind and generous Moon Goddess, Chang'e, she will try her best to make your wish come true.

The Year 3 students made these amazing lanterns as part of their celebrations. Great job, Year 3!

Thank you, Ms Ding and Mrs Hogg, for your help and for sharing this time with me.
