Victory for Columba Musicians at DPACS Competition

Mr C Hayde —

A group of accomplished Columba musicians secured themselves silverware at a local music event.

The Dunedin Performing Arts Competitions Society (DPACS) Instrumental Festival was held at the OBHS Auditorium last weekend and Columba College students attained some wonderful results in front of internationally trained adjudicators.

The competition included solo, duet and ensemble classes and featured contemporary, baroque and classical-romantic pieces. Columba students played a range of instruments including cello (Ana and Beatrice), violin (Iris and Linda), viola (Maya) and piano (Iona).

Congratulations to the following girls who took home trophies for being 1st in their class:

  • Betty – DPACS Junior Recital Shield – U16 Recital

  • Lucy – Sandra Dingwall Cup – Baroque Solo U14

  • Nalini – IRMT Otago Branch Cup – Baroque Solo U12

  • Nalini – DPACS Cup – String Instrument Solo (own selection)

  • Hahn Mihn and Alexis – DPACS 120 Years Cup – Instrument Ensemble U16

  • Nalini – Eli Gray-Smith Cup – Instrumental Duet U12

  • Liliana – Margaret Lawn Cup – Instrumental Duet U10

  • Hahn Mihn also won the Ella George Trophy for most engaging string player under 12 years old

Well done to all the Columba students taking the stage at DPACS and showing off their musical talent.
