Matariki Activities in the Classroom
With the celebration of Matariki this weekend, students have been learning the story of the Matariki cluster of stars, comprised of Matariki and her six daughters: Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waipunarangi, Waitī and Waitā, and Ururangi. The rise of the Matariki cluster marks the start of the Maori New Year. When it reappears in the night sky it signifies a time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present and plan for the year ahead.
Mrs Hogg's Year 3 class have been busy practising their cutting, gluing, design, drawing and colouring skills to make their own super stars. Mrs Harris was so impressed with their focus and efforts, even in the early stages, that she had to take some photographs!
