Emergencies and Postponements

Administration —

ACCIDENTS

All accidents or near misses should be reported to the College Office or the staff member in charge of the activity. If you find someone is injured, either take the patient to the College Office or, if in doubt about moving the patient, stay with them and send them to the School Office for help.

If blood is involved, do not touch the affected area(s) but seek help immediately.

EARTHQUAKE

In general, it is better not to move during tremors. Get under a desk and turn away from the glass. An earthquake drill is held every year. Follow the 'stop, drop and hold' procedure.

FIRE

Whenever the alarm goes, follow the set drill and go to the assembly points immediately. A fire drill is held three times a year.

FIRST AID

First Aid attention is available at the College Office, Intermediate block, Sports Centre and boarding house. A defibrillator is located in the KBH foyer.

LOCKDOWN

In the event of a school lockdown, follow the set drill.

POSTPONEMENTS/CANCELLATIONS

In most instances (for large-scale school events such as athletics events or snow days), a message is sent to parents and students via the school app and posted on social media.

SCHOOL RECORDS

These need to be accurate in case of emergency. Please use the KAMAR parent portal to change addresses, home or business telephone numbers, cellphone numbers, and email addresses (both parents). The school office will be automatically notified of any changes made in KAMAR.

SNOW DAYS

Decisions on snow days are made collectively by all Dunedin Secondary Schools. If a snow day is called, you will be notified via the school app.

USE OF TELEPHONE

You may use the telephone in the College Office.

WHEELCHAIRS

Wheelchairs are available in the Sports Centre.
