Emergencies
ACCIDENTS
All accidents or near misses should be reported to the School Office. In case of injury, either take the patient to the School Office or, if in doubt about moving, the patient, stay with her/him and send to the School Office for help.
If blood is involved, do not touch the affected area(s) without first putting on disposable plastic gloves. These may be obtained from the School Office, staff-room, laboratories and most classrooms.
EARTHQUAKE
In general, it is better not to move during tremors. Get under a desk and turn away from glass. An earthquake drill is held every year. Follow the 'stop, drop and hold' procedure.
FIRE
Whenever the alarm goes, follow the set drill and go to the assembly points immediately. A fire drill is held three times a year.
FIRST AID
First Aid attention is available at the School Office, Intermediate block, Sports Centre and Boarding-House. A defibrillator is located in the KBH foyer.
LOCKDOWN
In the event of a school lockdown, follow the set drill.
POSTPONEMENTS/CANCELLATIONS
In most instances (for large-scale school events such as Athletics Sports or for snow days), a message is sent to parents and students via the school app.
SCHOOL RECORDS
These need to be accurate in case of emergency. Please use the KAMAR parent portal to make any change of address, home or business telephone number, also cellphones, and email addresses (both parents). The school office will be automatically notified of any changes made in KAMAR.
SNOW DAYS
Decisions on snow days are made collectively by all Dunedin Secondary Schools. If a snow day is called, you will be notified via the school app.
USE OF TELEPHONE
You may use the telephone in the School Office, and you must first request permission from someone in the school office.
WHEELCHAIRS
Wheelchairs are available in the Sports Centre.
