Passion Projects

Ms T Andrew —

Middle School students have a new subject which has been introduced this year: 'Passion project'. This gives our Year 9s a regular time and place for one term to explore and research their chosen passion.

The project is open ended and the students can research in a number of ways and format their findings into a variety of outcomes for their presentations at the end of the Term.

Our Year 9s explored an amazing range of passions from sports nutrition, art through the ages, cooking with a variety of different sugars, short animations, which have been designed and written by the students with music and dialogue, mood boards with appropriate music sampling, scientific experiments with plants, hand-written stories and hand-made clothes designed for a doll just to name some.

Our Young Generation Z are image scavengers, adept at the pic and mix and cut-and-paste way of exploring and absorbing their digital and cultural world in image and text form.

This group has made and reflected their passion in forms which were not possible even five years ago. This is a generation of curious, articulate, digitally savvy students who engage with their world through the interface of technology.

The Passion project presents an opportunity for Year 9s to experiment, explore and present their findings and imaginings in different forms.
