New Zealand Secondary Schools Triathlon

Miss D Turnbull —

On Thursday the 30th of March, Year 13 students Kayla, Faith and Emma (Columba Doves), and Year 11 student Melanie, competed in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Triathlon at Glendhu Bay.

Over 250 competitors from 75 different schools around the country raced for their respective titles.

Melanie competed in the U16 Individual Girls event and managed to come away with an incredible 8th place, a tremendous achievement in a tough field.

The Columba Doves showed dominance in the U19 Female Team event with Emma coming out of the water in the lead. Kayla gave it her all on the bike and managed to sustain the lead, and Faith ran a PB in the final leg to finish it off. The Columba Doves pulled off a spectacular 1st place to claim the National Title! This is such a fantastic achievement and we are all so proud of them, as their hard work and dedication paid off.

Melanie in Year 11 also competed in the Aquathon and the Team relay in which she fought hard to the end and competed with such resilience. Melanie's team managed to claim 6th place in the relay event.

Emma in Year 13 competed in the 2km Open Water Swim event, placing 3rd. Emma is a very talented swimmer and her commitment to the sport is absolutely inspiring, well done Emma!

Thank you to all the parents who have supported these young athletes throughout the season, they could not have done it without you. Also, a huge shout out to Kayla who continues to encourage and support everyone, her organization and hard work do not go unnoticed.
