On Tuesday 17th November Columba College had 25 superstar athletes compete at the Otago Athletics Championships after qualifying from the recent North Zone event held earlier in the month.

On what was forecast to be a 25 degree scorcher, we were thankful to face clouds on an overcast, yet very humid day down at the Caledonian track. Columba College had students competing in both track and field events throughout the day and gained some impressive results across the board.

Year 6 star Harlow La Hood, won the U11 Girls Long Jump with a 3.70m score, claimed 1st in the 75m Sprint in a time of 11.10sec and finished an extremely respectful 5th place in the Year 5/6 Girls 800m.

Rising Year 5 athlete Isabella Van Aart finished 5th, Jumping 3.39m in the U10 Girls Long Jump and 6th overall in the Year 5/6 Girls 800m. 

Year 7 legend Delilah Brown came a respectful 3rd equal in the U12 High Jump with a score of 1.25m. She also gained 3rd place in Discuss with a throw of 19.21m and made the finals for 75m Sprint as well as the U12 Relay. 

Impressive in both disciplines, one of our Year 8 leaders Charli Sinclair gained two 1st places in both Over 13 Discuss (25.28m) and Shot Put (8.32m) field events then backed it up with two 2nd places on the track in both the 800m (2:37.41) and U13 Girls Relay.

Fellow Year 8 thrower Ciara Paterson dominated the U13 Shot Put with a score of 8.41m claiming 1st and backed it up by gaining a 3rd in Discuss with a throw of 20.42m. 

Long distance guru Lila Rhodes had a stellar run in the Year 7/8 Girls 800m claiming 4th place in a large field of runners.

Year 8 jumper Imogen Harrison finished 5th in the Over 13 Long Jump with a 4.08m score and 5th in the High Jump with a score of 1.25m. Imogen was also a member of the Over 13 Girls relay team who gained silver and made it to the finals for the 100m Sprint.

Charli Sinclair - Shot Put and Discuss
Ciara Paterson - Shot Put
Isabella Van Aart, Elodie Brown, Samantha Mundy and Ruby McIlroy - U10 Girls Relay Team
