Middle School Prefect 2021

Miss K Dailey —

Kennedy Dailey

I was entirely shocked upon receiving the call from Mrs Harris offering me the role of Middle School Prefect. As my first major leadership role it was, as I discovered, absolutely fundamental in nurturing my confidence to lead. From it, I have gained an abundance of life skills necessary for the upcoming University chapter of my life.

Foremost, I must thank Ms Armstrong-Homan for guiding me through the Middle School Prefect role. She has been constantly supportive and kind, and for that I am extremely grateful.

The most exciting aspect of my role was organising and supervising the social dances. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, I was only able to organise one Columba social this year. However, one was all I needed for a full-circle moment that celebrated my high school career coming to a close. There was a great sense of nostalgia in creating this event for the Middle School students, and it brought back the pure excitement of dancing my heart out to the ‘Cha-Cha Slide’ all night long. Well, until 8:30pm.

In addition to organising the social, I helped with the Peer Support sessions. I was involved with planning and overseeing the weekly sessions, which taught me the most about consistent responsibility and leadership.

The highlight of my year was the opportunity to give a Prefect Reflection in Chapel. This was a genuinely insightful experience and I was enlightened by an extremely positive affirmation, that will stay with me through the ups and downs of life:

“I only remember one thing from Year 8 Science and that is; if you try to grow a plant in darkness, it will only grow faster and taller in search of light. I encourage you all to do the same.”
