Wanaka Challenge Success

K. Millar - Multi sport Captain —

On Thursday the 16th of February, seven senior students participated in the Challenge Wanaka Secondary Schools Triathlon held at Glendhu Bay. It was a great success with everyone pushing themselves to the limit in the Central heat.

In the u16 individual girl's event, Year 11 student, Melanie, fought hard all the way to the end, absolutely dominating the course and coming away with a fantastic 1st place in 44 minutes and 42 seconds.

We had two teams in the u19 girls' team event with the Columba Senior Team consisting of Amelia (swim), Anya (bike), and Lila (run), and Columba 13s with Emma (swim), Kayla (bike), and Emilie (run). Emma had a superb swim being the first team out of the water, with Amelia not far behind. Kayla and Anya battled the undulating terrain, being the first and second cyclists back to transition. Emilie and Lila ran hard all the way to the end, not letting the heat get to them.

Awesome work from our two senior teams with Columba 13s claiming 1st place, winning every leg and finishing in a time of 1:09.45, closely followed by Columba Senior attaining 2nd place, just 30 seconds behind completing the course in 1:10.12.

It was a very successful day and we are super proud of all our students' efforts. Thank you to all the parents for getting them to the event and supporting them throughout the day. A big shout out to Kat Nicholson for being the school’s Marshal battling the heat and cheering loudly.
