Gate Chinese Club

Ms I Ding —

Miss Li is running the Gate Chinese Club this year. They have been learning some Chinese history, as well as getting creative by doing some paper cutting and making Chinese Peking opera masks. Students designed their own beautiful, unique Peking opera masks.

This year a Columba GATE Chinese Club will offer opportunities for students to interact with a native speaker and provide information and insight into Chinese culture and language. The club will also aim to support students competing at the big New Zealand Chinese competitions, such as the Chinese Speech Competition in May, the Chinese Calligraphy Competition in June and the Chinese Essay Competition in October.

The tutor is Miss Aletta Li, who is the Mandarin Assistant at Columba College for 2023. Miss Li is experienced in Mandarin training, directing Chinese drama, Chinese traditional skills (calligraphy, paper-cutting, making Chinese knots, Chinese painting etc.), as well as Chinese cooking.

The program is continuing from Term 1 to Term 4 and it will be held in the Chinese Classroom G6 in Girton on Tuesday afternoons from 3.20pm until 4.20pm. It started on (Term 1 week 5) Tuesday the 7th of March and will finish on Tuesday the 12th of December.
