Year 9 Election in action

Mrs L Piebenga —

As part of our Social Studies Government unit, all Year 9 students have actively taken part in our annual Year 9 election.

Year 9 students have worked closely in small groups to form their own political party as part of our Government unit.  Each group was tasked with writing policy, campaigning and delivering key political speeches to win the support of their follow students.

While some groups enticed the voters with sweet treats, bookmarks and home-baking, all students put together thoughtful policies to see 'improvements' to both the Columba and Dunedin communities.

As teachers, we were impressed with the students' team work, ability to think outside the boxand understanding of the election process.

Some students were tasked with the role of the Electoral Office and ensured that the voting process was fair and valid for all.  They did an excellent job of ensuring the event was run smoothly.

Congratulations to all our students on a very positive learning experience.
