Highlights from Shakespeare Week 21-24 March

Dr A George —

His last play may be about 410 years old but William Shakespeare is quite popular at Columba College.

The Bard proved popular in the library during Shakespeare Week. Books were issued, informative yet comical Horrible Histories songs giggled at, and bookmarks were coloured in. The students in Year 6 displayed their amazing creative writing. The Shakespeare in Action challenge was also popular, inspiring rowdy Lego crowds watching Hamlet and romantic depictions of Romeo and Juliet.

The fabulous Year 11 team took out the quiz with 21/25 points however three teams tied for second place so there were many winners on the day. Thank you Mrs Montgomerie for acting as MC on the day.

Thank you to Mrs Bercinskas for organising the visit from the Ugly Shakespeare Company who performed 'The Dream' (their version of A Midsummer Nights Dream) and for her fabulous work preparing the Columba College students who performed in the SGCNZ University of Otago Sheila Winn Shakespeare Festival. The junior students loved being able to see the drama students perform in the library at lunchtime.
