Year 4 Trip to Orokonui Ecosanctuary

Mrs Pollard —

On Tuesday 15 May, the Year 4 class had a great day at the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.

This trip tied in with our focus on New Zealand's native birds. While we were there we talked about how New Zealand's native bird population has changed over time. We looked at the features of our native birds and we got to see and hear some birds in real life. We also discussed the positive and negative impact humans have had on our bird population.

At the end of the day we hiked all the way from the top of the Orokonui Ecosanctuay to the bottom. It was a very long hike but we all thought it was worth it as it was like travelling back in time and seeing what and hearing what New Zealand may have looked and sounded like millions of years ago.

Many thanks to Tahu and the team at Orokonui Ecosanctuary and all of the parents who made this trip possible.
