Travellers Programme

Ms M Milne —

The Travellers Programme is now in full swing at Columba!

Travellers is a school-based eight session programme that helps Middle School students build skills to face life’s challenges. Currently, around 25% of our Year 9 students are attending Travellers, with two groups running. Each group is small (8-12 students) to allow for individual support facilitated by two trained facilitators.

This term, Ms Mary Milne (school guidance counsellor) and Ms Jess Lach (Teacher in Charge of Health and Wellbeing) facilitate our Monday group. Mrs Neresa Hall (school guidance counsellor) and Mrs Rebecca Gemmill (Dean of Year 8 and 9) facilitate our Thursday group.

Students enjoy sharing a hot chocolate while building relationships and resiliency skills. The courses uses the metaphor that we are all travellers on this life journey. Each member receives a travel diary and mini-suitcase (see pictures) into which to put their resources. This is part of Columba’s ongoing commitment to educate the whole student and honouring the importance of student wellbeing.
