Year 11 PE Duathlon

Mrs C Sinclair —

The Year 11 PE Duathlon was held recently on a beautiful Dunedin morning, with all students completing the course in good time.

It was no April Fool's joke on Thursday, 1st April when the two Level 1 Physical Education classes took part in the class duathlon at the Otago Harbour.  It was a beautiful morning - sunny, calm and bright - when our students took part in their duathalon.

The duathlon consisted of a run, bike then another run.  Faith Courtney was the first student back from the run with Louisa Kotkamp and Phoebe O'Donnell a few minutes behind.  Everyone was looking in good form during the run with all competitors coming in looking like they may achieve a Merit or better!  After the bike leg - which took them to the end of the bike track and back - Faith Courtney was still in the lead, followed closely by Millie Scott (who had a powerful ride), Phoebe O'Donnell and Poppy Henderson. Quickly hopping off their bikes, wobbly legs and all, they took off for the final 2km run. Faith Courtney set a blistering pace and crossed the line first in the second fastest time in Columba PE history!

Well done to all of the students involved who worked hard throughout the term to be in good condition to complete the duathlon. Thank you to Mrs Wafer for helping on the day, students for marshalling and parents for helping at the transition.
