The Otago Secondary School Athletic Championships were held recently - read below.

The Otago Secondary School Athletics were held recently in Dunedin and Columba had 30 students competing. Many students set personal bests at this meet and there were a number of students who qualified for the South Island Secondary School Athletics Championships in Nelson. 

For the first time ever, Columba College had a student competing in Pole Vault – Amaya Leslie. This was Amaya’s first competition, having only recently taken up the sport. Amaya produced a personal best at the competition and qualified for South Island’s.

The following results were gained by Columba students: -

Under 14:

· Hannah Cormack, 3rd 200m

· Catherine Lund, 2nd 3000m (new Columba record), 3rd 800m, 2nd Open 2000m steeplechase

· Brenna Lyons, 3rd 80m hurdles

· 4 x 100m relay, 3rd Catherine Lund, Phoebe O’Donnell, Amelia Francis, Hannah Cormack

Under 15:

· Lily Ferro, 2nd 100m, 2nd 200m

· Jaime Reid, 1st 3000m (new Columba record)

· 4 x 100m relay, 2nd Brenna Lyons, Riley Piebenga, Erica Su, Lily Ferro

Under 16:

· Rachael Turner, 1st 800m, 1st 1500m

Senior:

· Ella McCall, 1st 800m

· Stephanie Smith, 1st Hammer Throw, 3rd Javelin Throw (new Columba record), 3rd Shot Put

· 4 x 400m relay 3rd, Ella McCall, Charlotte Wheeler, Ashlee Turner, Harriett Cuttance

Thank you to Stephanie Smith (Athletics Captain) for helping with the organisation of the team, Miss Turnbull for helping out on Saturday and all of the family and friends who came along to help and support the team. A team of six athletes now head to Nelson for the South Island Secondary School Championships this weekend.
