Reaching Level 2

Dr Macleod —

Well done – as a nation we’ve made it to Level 2 and all of you have played a part in this achievement. We’re not through everything yet, but we’re out of lockdown.

Amidst all of the excitement, I actually have a few mixed feelings. I’m not worried: I think our government is making good public health decisions, our school and boarding house have good procedures, and we’re doing a good job of following the requirements. But I am a little nervous. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again, but it might feel strange or be a bit overwhelming. And we have to adjust to another way of doing things.

I’m a bit nervous. Some of you might be stressed. Some of you might prefer to stay at home. That’s all OK. We’ll get through this together.

Today’s reading (Hebrews 13:8) tells us that, even in changing circumstances, Jesus stays the same. There are things that are constant, things we can rely on.

I think most of us are really excited about the opportunity to be back together with more normal routines. Let’s also remember that different people will respond in different ways. We need to be patient and kind towards each other.

As we go into this next transition, I want to remind you that God truly understands you. You are loved. You are loved by others and you are loved by God.
