40H Famine Update - Ms Moore’s Experiences in Malawi

Miss G Wong, Miss O Charles, Miss A Fu —

Olivia, Angela and I had the opportunity to speak to Ms R Moore, Columba’s Year 6 teacher, about her time in Malawi.

Ms Moore has been going to Malawi since 1998. She worked as a volunteer teacher there after fundraising in New Zealand to send books over to start a library. At the moment, she says, one of the hardest things is the lack of tourism - communities rely on it and there is little assistance from the government. The living costs for a week amounts to $40, and going to high school for a term is $66. It may not seem like much to us, but even that can be difficult to earn.

To help the people of Malawi live through these challenging times and face ongoing climate change issues, please take part in this year’s 40 Hour Famine from 5-7 June. Click the link to sign up or donate. Even a little makes a big difference.
