Torpedo 7 Get2Go Challenge

Miss P Hopcroft —

A group of Year 9 and 10 Columba College Multisport athletes took part in their first ever Get2Go challenge last week - successfully undertaking the challenges of kayaking, mountain biking and orienteering.

On Wednesday 15th September, a Columba College all-girls team and a mixed team, combined with John McGlashan College students, competed in the Torpedo 7 Get2Go Challenge. The challenge involved orienteering at Foster park, kayaking at McAndrew Bay and mountain biking at Logan Park.

The Columba College all-girls team of Crystal Chiang, Alix Dohig, Poppy Edmond, Kira Hollamby, Tylah James, Kate McGowan, Catalina Nock and Mia Revell-Lynch finished the challenge in 9th position, collecting a total of 227 points.

The Columba-John McGlashan mixed team, consisting of Melanie Button, Amelia Loudon, Anya Rhodes and Charli Sinclair, and four JMC students, finished the race in a nail-biting 2nd place, collecting a total of 281 points - only 4 points off Taieri College who ended up winning the competition with a total of 285 points.

This was an impressive effort for the first ever multisport event for all twelve members! Most of our girls are fairly new to adventure racing, and only learnt the necessary orienteering skills in the week leading up to the event!

Well done, Columba - an amazing effort from all involved! It is great to see the interest in multisport growing and with many of the girls eligible to attend again next year we will look to build on this year's results. A big thank you to Ray, Jilly and Caitlin O'Brien for helping provide support to both teams. Their knowledge and expertise in the field was essential to both teams' success.
