National Schools Pride Week

Ms J Lach —

Our Rainbow Youth and Wellbeing Committee have been decorating Girton and the library for National Schools' Pride Week.

This nationwide event aims to celebrate and encourage diversity in Secondary Schools throughout Aotearoa. When our identities are included and affirmed in our communities, we have a greater sense of well-being and overall improvement in our mental health. Our theme for Pride Week this year is ‘Express Yourself’, meaning that there are so many ways to be you, and we should all have the space to be ourselves. Year 7-13 students are encouraged to create submissions for our art and writing competition that illustrate our theme to help us celebrate (and be in to win prizes too!).

Also, be sure to check out our ‘Out On the Shelves’ display in the Library for some suggestions on Rainbow-friendly books. Every year, Rainbow Youth creates a display to go into the nationwide display competition, so we really try to stand out!
