Columba College wins Multiple Awards at the 2020 Chinese Prize Giving Otago

Columba College was awarded 'The Best School' of 'The 11th NZ Chinese Calligraphy Competition 2020'. Mrs Duthie went up on the stage and accepted the award on behalf of our school. Ms Ding and Miss Shi were awarded 'The Best Coach'.

This year, there were a number of students from our Junior, Middle and Senior school who won national prizes in the “11th NZ Chinese Calligraphy Competition” in the hard pen and soft brush divisions. 

Year 10 Mabel Lee 1st place in Calligraphy Competition in Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category.

Noa Kuroki, Koh Miyamichi (Year 10) and Rin Ueda (Year 9) won 2nd place in Brush Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category. 

Eleanor Wong and Raheli Yehezkely (Year 8), Noa Kuroki (Year 10) won 2nd place in Hard Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category.

Ruoshui Zhang (Year 10) won 2nd place in Hard Pen Calligraphy NativeIntermediate & Secondary Category and 3rd place in Brush PenCalligraphy Native Secondary Category.

Ellie Cameron (Year 7) and Wakane Ogawa (Year 11) won 3rd place in Brush Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category.

Scarlett Wilson (Year 7), Thandie Chiruka (Year 8), Rin Ueda (Year 9), Koh Miyamichi (Year 10), Kalyaporn Maicharoen and Wakane Ogawa (Year 11) won 3rd place in Hard Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Intermediate & Secondary Category.

Zoe MacKenzie and Nio Maclean (Year 6) won 3rd place in Hard Pen Calligraphy Non-Native Primary Category.

Zara Walker, Esme Walker and Yumeng (Rainny) Li (Year 6), Bilal Ahmad, Ruby McIlroy and Samantha Mundy (Year 5), Lily Cottle, Ruby Tilyard and Ethan Zhou (Year 4) have been awarded Merit prize in the 11th NZ Chinese Calligraphy Competition Primary category.

Ruth Huang and Yufei Liu (Year 13), Madison Sullivan (Year 11), Anise Maclean, Yukiha Fujii and Zitong Zhang (Year 10), Anna Diaz-Farron (Year 9), Aminah Ahmad, Sophia Body, Emily Ward and Taylor Skevington (Year 8), Hebe Song, Jessica Flowers and Bobbi Fleming-Wilson (Year 7) have been awarded Merit prize in the 11th NZ Chinese Calligraphy Competition Intermediate & Secondary category.

Columba College students performed two items, a violin performance “The Butterfly Lovers” by Yufei Liu (Year 13) and a fan dance with Guzheng (Chinese traditional instrument), performance by Chinese international students.
