The South Island Secondary School Athletic Championships were held recently in Nelson.

Six athletes from Columba attended this event.  Amaya Leslie competed in the Pole Vault (which was held in Dunedin) and continued her form vaulting 2:20m and placing 3rd.

Meanwhile in Nelson Columba records were tumbling! Stephanie Smith set a new record in the Under 19 Javelin placing 3rd and she gained personal best distances in the senior shot put and senior hammer throw. Rachael Turner set a new record in the Under 16 girls 800m (2:30.14), placing 3rd and she also gained 5th place in the 1500m. Jaime Reid set a new Under 15 1500m record 5:11.96, placing 4th and she also gained 3rd place in the Under 15 3000m.

Other results include: Lily Ferro 4th in Under 15 100m and 4th in 200m; Brenna 5th in 80m Hurdle heat;  Catherine Lund 5th in Under 14 800m and 2nd in Under 14 3000m.

Fantastic results from all of the students! Thank you to Stephanie Smith (Athletic Captain) for her assistance, her thoughtfulness her kindness with the team. Also a huge "thank you" to Mrs Paula Turner and Mrs Nicola Ferro for all of their help while away in Nelson.

The next aim now is to have a team of students to compete at the New Zealand Secondary School Athletic Championships that are being held in Wellington from Friday 29 November - Sunday 1 December. We are investigating in having a couple of coaches attached to this team, to assist with their training. Please contact Mrs Sinclair if you think this is something that interests you (students) or your daughter (parents).
