Rowing Have-a-go day

Mrs C Sinclair —

25 current and new rowers attended the Columba Rowing 'Have-a-go-Day' last weekend, trying out rowing machines and the University's rowing tank.

Last weekend a group of motivated rowers and 'new rowers' attended the Columba Rowing 'have-a-go-day' at the Columba Rowing Club.  The day started with a tour around the Columba Rowing Club and a brief discussion about how rowing works and where they train.  Matthew Adam and Saskia Klinkenberg (two of the Columba coaches) ran through the things that make rowing fantastic - including meeting new people, traveling, getting really fit and learning good organisation and time-management skills.  Saskia spoke of the opportunities that rowing had given her, including numerous overseas rowing trips.

The group then moved down to the Otago University Rowing Club where they spent time on the rowing machines learning the basic technique of the rowing stroke.  This was interspersed with time on the rowing tank - a highlight for many. The 'day' finished with a barbecue and cake back at the Columba Rowing Club.

If anyone is interested in taking up rowing, or learning more information please contact Mrs Sinclair at school.
