Skyla Murrary excels

Mrs S Casbolt —

Congratulations to Skyla Murray (Yr 11) and her chamber music group, Eccentrioties, for being selected for the NZCT Chamber Music Competition semi-finals! They are among the top 12 chamber music groups in the country (out of over 350 ensembles), and they will perform at The Piano in Christchurch on August 6th.

The piano trio is made up of Yr 13 cellist Boudewijn Keenan (OBHS) and Yr 11 pianist Alexander Sun (LPHS), and they were coached by Heleen du Plessis, who teaches cello at the University of Otago. They will be performing ‘Ahi’ by Gareth Farr. Skyla and Boudewijn were fortunate to meet Farr last week, while they were away practising and performing at the National Youth Orchestra, alongside the NZSO. Farr provided the two with some insight into his works as well as some advice. Congratulations, also, to Skyla who was seated as Associate Principal of the Second Violins in the NYO. This is an excellent achievement!

As they get ready for the semi-finals, we wish them the best of luck in their preparation and performance!
