Volleyball Team Nationals Experience

Miss D Turnbull —

Last week the Columba College Senior A Volleyball Team traveled to Palmerston North to compete in the National Secondary School Championships.

Year 12 Captain - Keira recalled her trip

"We had a strong start to the tournament, winning our first game against Whanganui. Unfortunately, we lost to Waikato Diocesan School in an agonizingly close 5-set game, putting us in the bottom half of our division. From here, we won convincingly against three other teams which placed us in the playoffs for 9th and 10th against Onslow College. After a tough 4 sets, we finished 10th in our division.

All of the girls played enthusiastically and had positive attitudes. We have learned a lot this year, which will help us to do well next year. Overall this was a fantastic experience and to see our skillset develop over the course of the season has been phenomenal.

We would like to say thank you to our manager Petrina Tizard who was an amazing team mum, always looked after everything we needed and kept the team amped. We are immensely grateful to our coach Brianna Horne for stepping up to the challenge and providing strong insights and quality knowledge. Also to our star teachers in charge Mrs Piebenga and Mrs Graamans for being an awesome dynamic duo supporting us throughout our journey and cheering us on each game."

Well done Columba Senior A Volleyball, we are incredibly proud of your efforts.
